Survival

  • Eating - If somebody is spoon feeding a chlild up until they depart for elementary school, they will not be able to function on their own.

Fosters Independent Learning

  • We will not always have somebody there to help us solve our problems
  • We need to learn many basic skills such as getting dressed, brushing our teeth, getting breakfast, etc.

Aids in the development of the self

  • Gain a sense of accomplishment - Children feel good about themselves when they are able to complete a task independently.

Children like problem solving!

  • Children are "active seekers of knowledge" and are always trying to find solutions to problems. For example if a group of children were playing together and wanted to build a big lego structure but ran out of legos, they may take small wooden blocks instead to build the structure, or other materials that would work as well.
